Grounding and Shielding: A Simple Tool for Calmer Days

One of the very first tools I teach families I work with,  is grounding and shielding—because it works, and it works quickly.

Many children (and parents), especially those navigating autism, are deeply sensitive to sounds, emotions, and the energy around them. When boundaries are permeable, overwhelm spreads fast.

Grounding helps us feel present and steady in our bodies.
Shielding helps protect our energy so we don’t absorb what isn’t ours.

When I’m not grounded or shielded, my energy feels scattered and staticky—and my kids feel it too. But with a simple 30-second practice, everything shifts. I feel calmer, my kids regulate more easily, and our interactions feel lighter and more connected.

I teach grounding in four simple steps and shielding using gentle color layers that protect emotions, relationships, and spiritual space. Families often call it putting on their shield of faith for the day.

Want to learn how to do this with your family?
I’m offering a free Grounding and Shielding class with simple guidance, a picture book, and audio or video options—whatever works best for you.
