Embrace Grounding: A Guide to Being Grounded in Four Simple Steps

Today, I want to explore the impact of grounding in our lives, especially for parents of children on the autism spectrum and the children too. Grounding plays a crucial role in maintaining our energetic boundaries and overall well-being. Children on the autism spectrum often have permeable energetic boundaries, making grounding essential for their regulation and balance.

Importance of Grounding for Autism

Most kids with autism have somewhat penetrable energetic bubbles, leaving them open to various energies that can disrupt their balance. In my experience working with children on the spectrum, I’ve come across a few with robust energetic boundaries, but it’s not the norm. This is why grounding and shielding are indispensable. Today we will focus on grounding techniques. I promise to cover shielding in a future episode.

The Four Steps to Grounding

When we talk about grounding, think of it as roots extending deep into the earth, allowing the tree to reach its full height. There are four crucial areas I assess for grounding:

1. Mind and Spirit Connection: Establishing a solid link between the mind and spirit is vital. Imagine our spirits as eternal, existing before our physical form. Connecting the mind and spirit aids in processing feelings and experiences on a higher level.

2. Spirit, Mind, and Body Unity: Ensuring your spirit, mind, and body are fully aligned is the next step. Your spirit needs to be 100% connected to both your mind and body. Ideally, the spirit leads the way, providing us with better discernment and decision-making capabilities.

3. Grounding to the Earth: Visualize roots extending from the soles of your feet deep into the earth’s core. This process helps release anything that doesn’t serve you, replacing it with the earth’s positive offerings like vitamins, minerals, strength, and courage—bringing balance and stability.

4. Connection to Heaven: Feel love and gratitude flow upwards, then feeling heaven’s love, light, and peace descending upon you. Visualize yourself amidst an infinity symbol of love and support, bringing a sense of tranquility and connection.

Practicing Grounding: A Practical Approach

I often guide my clients through a grounding visualization, then assign them a homework task to practice with a meditation I provide. Sometimes, blocks may prevent individuals from grounding effectively — In my sessions, I work to clear these obstructions, but many people successfully learn to ground on their own with guidance from my meditation.
