I’m thrilled to share an incredible conversation from my podcast episode featuring an interview with Emma and her son Jay. Their journey into unlocking communication through energy work and spelling is both uplifting and inspirational.
A Connection Beyond Words
Emma and I’ve shared a friendship for over 11 years, rooted deeply in understanding and communication beyond just spoken words. Our story begins with a spirit to spirit connection I experienced with Jay right after our first and only face-to-face meeting. This inspired both my career and deeper exploration into helping autistic children and their families.
Introducing Emma and Jay
Emma graciously shared their story, noting that pseudonyms are used to honor the intimacy of their experiences. Jay, a 23-year-old non-verbal autistic with a cerebral palsy diagnosis, communicates with the world around him using a letter board. Emma describes their initial trials, including Jay’s tendency towards self-harm and their relentless search for solutions. This journey towards healing was transformational, including discovering homeopathy, essential oils and energy medicine as pivotal resources.
Meeting each other!
A serendipitous Facebook exchange connected Emma with Sheridan.. Jay’s response during their first meeting was astonishing, revealing the profound depth of their connection. That night after they met, Jay’s spirit requested that Sheridan share a message with Emma. Shocked, Sheridan reached out to Emma, explaining what had happened.
Sheridan takes us deeper, recounting her striking experience of spirit communication with Jay, which had happened with babies of the expectant mothers she worked with, but was unique given Jay was definitely outside of the womb!
This communication wasn’t merely spiritual; it opened practical pathways for Jay to express desires and needs, including a profound moment which led Emma to create a vision board inspired by Jay titled, “Loose His Tongue,” aligning with scriptural references and spiritual goals of expression and participation in religious milestones.
Importance of Supporting the Parent
The role of a calm environment can’t be underestimated in aiding a speller. Sheridan’s energy work has continually supported Emma in maintaining a grounded presence, crucial when communication becomes challenging. This episode amplifies the importance of self-care, mutual regulation, and the symbiotic relationship between a parent and child on the autism spectrum.
Emma and Jay’s story is one of hope, resilience, and transformation.
Emma’s courage and Jay’s perseverance have taught us all about the profound possibilities inherent in believing and pursuing communication in every form.
