The Power and Passion Behind Spelling to Communicate

This week on the podcast, I had the sweetest and most inspiring conversation with Dannah, a Spelling to Communicate (S2C) practitioner whose heart is truly on fire for helping non-speakers find their voice.

If you’ve ever wondered what S2C actually looks like, or why so many families are turning to it, this episode will fill your heart with hope.

How Dannah Found Her Calling

Dannah’s journey started years ago when she worked in group homes and summer camps with autistic individuals. Life took her to theater and writing, but a beautiful twist brought her back: she attended a play written by a non-speaking autistic person—and everything lit up again.

She eventually trained in S2C and has watched countless children and teens finally express what’s been inside them all along. And truly… it is life-changing.

What S2C Really Is

S2C teaches non-speakers to communicate by pointing to letters on a board or keyboard.
But here’s the key:
It’s not a cognitive issue—it’s motor planning.

Their minds are fully aware, fully thinking, fully present… but the motor pathway to speech is blocked. S2C helps bridge that gap so their thoughts can finally come forward.

Moments That Keep Her Going

Dannah shares one story that gave me chills:

A 15-year-old boy who had been written off as “unable to learn” spelled out International Space Station —on day one.

This is why S2C matters.
This is why we keep advocating for methods that honor our children’s intelligence and inner worlds.

How Energy Work Fits In

I loved when Dannah shared that doing energy work helped her feel more confident and grounded as she supports families. It’s a beautiful reminder that when we are regulated, centered, and aligned, we show up more fully for our kids and clients.

Her Message for Parents

Dannah’s encouragement was so heartfelt:

Every non-speaker deserves a chance to communicate.
Your child has an inner voice.
And methods like S2C can help that voice come forward.

Whether you are just starting this journey or already walking the path, this episode will lift and inspire you.
