Going to Sundance felt like such a special experience for me.
My husband and I went in February, and it ended up being the last festival in Park City, which made it feel even more meaningful. There was so much going on all around us. People were there for all different reasons. Some were there to watch as many films as possible. Some were there for the whole vibe of it. Some probably just loved being in Park City.
We only saw one movie in person and one online, but even that felt really fun and unique. There is something special about being there in person, hearing from directors and producers, and just being part of it all. Everyone is having their own experience, even though they are all in the same place.
The Hill Feels Similar to Me
As I was thinking about Sundance, it made me think about The Hill.
They are not the same, of course, but they feel similar to me in one important way: both are places where people can have very unique individual experiences inside a shared space.
The Hill is like that.
It is a place nonspeakers can choose to go. It takes intention. It takes awareness. And once they are there, each person experiences it a little differently. I have my little office there where nonspeakers come to talk with me, which feels personal and sacred to me. But The Hill is bigger than just that one space.
Just like Sundance, there is more there than you may realize at first.
We All Experience Things Differently
That is really the part that stands out to me most.
You can have a hundred people in the same place, and they are not all having the same experience. Each person is taking in something different. Each person is noticing different things. Each person is creating their own memories and meaning.
That was true at Sundance, and it feels true at The Hill too.
I think there is something really beautiful about that. We do not all have to experience things the same way for them to be real or meaningful. In fact, that is part of what makes these experiences so rich.
There is beauty in the uniqueness of how each of us sees, feels, and experiences the world.
